El General Emiliano Zapata Salazar was a Mexican revolutionary and one of the most prominent leaders of the Mexican Revolution. Born on August 8th, 1879 in Morelos, Mexico, Zapata was a peasant who became a revolutionary hero, fighting for land reform and the rights of the indigenous people of Mexico.
Zapata formed the Liberation Army of the South, also known as the Zapatistas, in 1910 and became one of the most influential leaders of the Mexican Revolution, which lasted from 1910-1920. He is best known for his efforts to redistribute land to the peasants, particularly in Morelos. His famous slogan "Tierra y Libertad" (Land and Freedom) became a rallying cry for those fighting for land reform.
Zapata was known for his uncompromising stance on land reform and his opposition to the government of President Porfirio Díaz. He was recognized as a hero of the Mexican Revolution and is still venerated as a symbol of social justice and land reform in Mexico today.
Zapata was assassinated on April 10th, 1919, by government forces under the command of General Jesús Guajardo. Although his death was a great loss for the revolutionary movement, his legacy lives on, and his ideas continue to inspire social and political movements in Mexico and beyond.
